Education
J. Terry Holland is a native Knoxvillian educated in the public school systems of
Knoxville, Tennessee. Upon graduation from high school in June 1967, he entered The
University of Tennessee in September, 1967. In 1968 Mr. Holland was initiated into
Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity and later served as Second Vice President, and
Chapter President for one year. Additionally Mr. Holland was the U.T. Chapter
representative to the National Convention in Dallas, Texas in December 1970. Mr. Holland
obtained an undergraduate degree of a Bachelor of Science in Education with an emphasis on
History and Political Science. The BS degree was awarded in June, 1971.
In September, 1971, Mr. Holland entered The University
of Tennessee College of Law. While in Law School, Mr. Holland was commissioned as a
Second Lieutenant in the United States Army after having completed R.O.T.C. as both a
Distinguished Military Student and a Distinguished Military Graduate. In August,
1972, Mr. Holland completed Officer's Basic Course at the Air Defense Artillery School in
El Paso, Texas. Again, Mr. Holland was in the top ten percent of the class.
Upon return from the United States Army, Mr. Holland completed his legal education and
graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law in June, 1974, with a Doctor of
Jurisprudence Degree. Mr. Holland sat for the Tennessee Bar Examination in July,
1974, and passing the test, was admitted to the Bar on October 5, 1974. In December, 1974,
Mr. Holland was admitted to practice in the Federal Courts. Since October 5, 1974,
Mr. Holland has continually practiced law in Knoxville, Tennessee. Mr. Holland's
Board of Professional Responsibility number is 596. Further information concerning

Personal
Mr. Holland was born May 24, 1949 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Mr. Holland was married
on May 28, 1971 to the former Linda Carol Murray of Knoxville, Tennessee. Mr. and
Mrs. Holland have four children who have variously attended Vanderbilt University, The
University of Tennessee, The University of Alabama, Tennessee Technological University,
and Tennessee Wesleyan College. Mr. and Mrs. Holland have resided in West Knoxville,
Tennessee since February of 1980. In 1982 Mr. Holland moved his practice from
downtown Knoxville to West Knoxville and has remained in West Knoxville to the current
time.
Mr. and Mrs. Holland are conservative Southern Baptists and attend church regularly.
Mr. Holland was ordained as a Deacon in 1988 but is not serving as an active deacon at
this time. In addition to their church activities the Hollands are UT Football fans
and have maintained season tickets for more than a quarter of a century.
Mr. Holland was selected for Swathmore's Who's Who in Business and Industry in 1995 and
has reappeared each year since that time. Additional honors include Outstanding
Young Men of America in 1980 and several Pro Bono awards for service. Mr. Holland is also
a member of the Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity both as an active member while in Law
School and in the past as an Alumni advisor of the P.A.D. chapter at The University of
Tennessee College of Law.
The objectives of this firm can be succinctly stated in one sentence. That is, to accomplish for our clients the best result for their case that can be accomplished within the dictates of the law and the facts of the case and to do so in as timely and economically feasible fashion as possible. Toward that end, this firm dedicates itself to handling those cases that are in areas where the members have experience or a special interest or knowledge. At present,the firm accepts representation for most civil trial, family practice and criminal trial work including personal injury litigation, insurance litigations, business trial and business organizational activities and criminal trial work from simple driving violations to Class A Felony representation. In appropriate cases, the firm will handle Federal Court litigation in areas of representation as well.
Recent cases include a Federal Court jury verdict for bad faith failure to settle an insurance claim against Allstate Insurance company with a jury verdict of $130,000. Other cases involve Workers Compensation 100% disability claim with a $131,000 judgment. In addition thereto, several judgments and settlements in other personal injury cases exceeding $50,000 per case within the past year.
Fees are payable based upon the type of case and the size of the fee to be charged. Hourly rates are available on most cases. Normally, a contingency fee will be charged on all personal injury cases in accordance with the appropriate statute or the common, usual, and standard fees charged by lawyers in the Knoxville area. We recognize that clients often do not have sufficient resources to pay full fees in advance, therefore, in most instances, we will offer convenient terms for payment of our services.
Professional services are available in the various areas of services as set forth below. In keeping with our firm objective, we offer counsel and all lawyer services necessary to handle any client matter which we undertake on behalf of any client. From time to time it may be necessary to utilize the services of other professionals such as expert witnesses in the medical or accounting fields. Ordinarily, we would retain professionals outside of the medical field to testify as expert witnesses based upon our knowledge of the client matter and the availability in our area of knowledgeable professionals to meet the client need. We do not usually recommend a particular health care witness or treating physician but can do so if the need arises.
We practice in all Courts located in the confines of the State of Tennessee. This includes all Federal Courts as well as all State Courts. We likewise are authorized to practice before all State Agencies as well as C ounty and Municipal Agencies. We do not do title searches, title insurance, or represent bankrupt individuals in bankruptcy matters. We provide a wide range of other services including all services in the following areas.

Disney Enterprising Incorporated - from 1995 to 1998, J. Terry Holland acted as local Counsel for this client in the area of Copyright and Trademark Infringement in the Eastern District of Tennessee handling some 250 cases included some 40 lawsuits filed on behalf of client in Federal Court in Tennessee. During this time, Trademark Infringements decreased substantially and no cases were lost.
Southern Signs, Inc. - from inception in April, 1977, J. Terry Holland has provided all legal services necessary on behalf of this client including drafting of contract documents, enforcement of said contract in Court, general representation, and general business counseling as to strategies to retain client market share in East Tennessee.
